The first Japanese dance was connected to the legend of Amaterasu Omikami, the sun goddess who is the ancestor of the Imperial family. Amaterasu's brother, Susanoo, destroyed her garden. In despair, Amaterasu locked herself in a cave, casting a cold darkness over the entire world. Finally, Amenouzume no Mikoto, the goddess of the dawn, decided to performed a dance in front of the rock cave where Amaterasu hid. The dance was so foolish that the other gods and godesses could not stop laughing,making Amaterasu come out of the cave, because of her curiosity.
The parasol dance was created for wealthy men. Then, Japan were sensual and often a Geisha would do this sometimes as a ceremony for the men. Geishas are traditional female entertainers who act as hostesses and have skills in performing various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance, games, and facial expressions.
